About Lake Kinkaid
Kinkaid Lake, which is located in Jackson County here in southern Illinois. Located approximately 5 miles northwest of Murphysboro and 100 miles southeast of St. Louis. Kinkaid was built in 1968 and is around 2,750 acres all around. The area surrounding the lake has a very unique ownership, as it is split between three different organizations. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources manages around 4,000 acres, the U.S. Forest Services manages 5,000 acres, and the Kinkaid-Reed’s Creek Conservancy District manages 300 acres. The topography around the lake also varies. Some parts have sandstone bluff formations while others have rolling hills that house hickory and oak trees.
